A 16-year-old from Los Alamitos, CA, Samantha started high school with the belief that she did not need reading support, despite a Lexile score of only 139, the equivalent of a first-grade reading level. A social and talkative teenager, Samantha didn’t know how much she really needed help until after she was enrolled in READ 180 and began working on the program in earnest. Her teacher Jacqueline Post confirms that “the realization that reading was a real struggle for her became evident,” but as Samantha experienced success in READ 180, she became more and more determined to raise her reading scores and become a stronger student across all subject areas.
And succeed Samantha did – two years after enrolling in READ 180 her Lexile score has skyrocketed, advancing over 1,000 Lexiles and placing her on-level with her peers. Along with her improved reading skills, READ 180 has helped Samantha gain the confidence that she can achieve anything she puts her mind to. As she says, “Once I started learning new stories and grammar, I realized how much I did not know. READ 180 has taught me how to read and write so much better than I could before. I have had such a great experience and I will never forget how I was taught to read better.”
